It makes sense. I don't decide to breath. I can't realy decide to start "doing drugs". We clearly do not have 100% free will. What is funny is that they think it is a new discovery. I point to the quote "give me a boy and I give you the man..." from way back.-That being said. Try and lay out what you do know first. Then be honest about it. A person can change their mind when this is done properly. The brain can do this. Find a teacher with integrity. A few simple questions will tell ya

GK: It makes sense. I don't decide to breath. I can't realy decide to start "doing drugs". We clearly do not have 100% free will. -If you mean that our decision-making is very colored by our backgrounds and teachings, then I agree that free will is not entirely free. But I've changed my mind several times in my lifetime in various aspects of my life. My will is very free.-> That being said. Try and lay out what you do know first. Then be honest about it. A person can change their mind when this is done properly. The brain can do this. Find a teacher with integrity. A few simple questions will tell ya-I agree. Study, study, study to decide the important questions. Knowledge overrides emotions.

> I agree. Study, study, study to decide the important questions. Knowledge overrides emotions.-yes that is what I meant. That is why I used 100% free. How free we are is open for debate. And yes again. Learn as much as we can or have time for. And understand the limits of that knowledge. And speak to what we do know.

I quite enjoyed the tie in regarding population survival and the sanctity of the family arrangement. From my theistic perspective, it is just one more example of how a god-designed institution works better than anything we can conceive of ourselves.

>David: How about all the biomimetic items developed from designed processes in life?-Yep, and none of them are as good as the systems they are mimicking either. :-)
