Ode to 1st Anniversary (General)

Ode to AgnosticWeb Year One - We've been on line for just a year.
 Some atheists found us odd,
Because they thought that Richard D.
Had proved there was no God. - Others were more tolerant,
 But looked at us askance
For arguing that reason didn't
Bolster faith in chance. - They said that science soon would be
 Religion's nemesis,
Once it proved the theory of
Abiogenesis. - Of course they haven't proved it yet,
 But that's a minor blip.
DNA's a doddle, folks,
And life's a lucky dip. - Some declared, it's very clear
 Our world has been designed,
But there's no point in trying to read
 The great designer's mind.

Oh yes there is, the Christians cried,
 Because God wrote a book.
He gave us all the answers, if
We just know where to look. - Omnipotent, omniscient,
 And He's all-good as well,
But if you do not bow and scrape,
Then you can go to hell. - We had a range of psychic posts:
 Faith healing, ESP,
The OBE, the UFO,
The Lommel NDE. - The explanations followed on,
 With more or less conviction:
Dreams, subconscious, bendy waves,
Quanta, science fiction... - Some minds open, some minds close.
You may not win your case,
But just be glad you're taking part
In this, our human race. -
With many thanks to all who have contributed, and special thanks to Neil, who set it all up. - Happy New Year to everyone.

Thanks to dhw, Happy New Year to All - All hail to d h w, a fellow who can't make up his mind,
He started this site to discover all the opinions he could find.
And thoughts have poured in from every kind of theory,
And after over a thousand entries we are not getting weary. - Atheist, agnostic, deist, theist, pantheist, panentheist views are presented,
But no anger, no snide comments at proposals that might be resented.
And so our contributors must accept a round of heartfelt applause,
As all of us try to find some answers that might help d h w's cause. - D h w still sits on the fence. Does looking for God make any sense?
Are there theories that clarify or ones that tend to make things more dense?
Sorting them through has unfolded a great deal of information,
An acceptable answer for all of us would create quite a sensation. - Is there really a God that is concealed, or do we know He even exists?
Is everything due to chance, or is brilliant intellect behind all that consists?
The debate will rage on and on without a final absolute solution,
For we all know there's no absolute proof found in any religious institution.
