IBM Declares Victory Over Human Intelligence (reply)

Matt has drawn our attention to a major advance in AI, under the heading above: > > > > Well, if computers can learn to use "actual common sense", that will certainly give them victory over many of the humans I know. Keep us posted. > > Matt and I have battled over computers and AI. The following article by a philosopher of science fits my thoughts exactly. Watson will never know it won. Some common sense memory, yes, consciousness never! > > http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703407304576154313126987674.html?KEYWORDS... think you've missed some of my recent discussion about the topic. I no longer view AI as a possibility based on the current architectural models that we currently use. If we have any hope of modeling the mind, we at a minimum need to be able to truly mimic its structure.-A rule in computer design: everything is faster in hardware. If the hardware doesn't match the problem domain, you're lost.-Thank you HP and your memristors.

What age human? > > However, here's an interesting extract: > > Chu-Carroll said computers may be learning to use actual common sense over the next five to 10 years. > "I would like to see computers be more able to understand the world much better," she added. "We're trying to code rules of common sense knowledge. Keep us posted.-Yeah... I left the title provocative for a reason. But your last line here is a howler!
