dhw away again (General)

by dhw, Tuesday, March 12, 2019, 11:13 (1866 days ago)

I shall be away from tomorrow (Wednesday) until Saturday, and will try to catch up on Sunday or Monday. Apologies especially to David, but also to anyone out there who might miss the daily joust!

I'm going to be away again for a week, and will catch up as soon as I can.I suspect that the mysteries of the universe will remain unsolved until then.

I'll keep on studying mysteries as science tries to unravel them.

I'm off again on my travels, and hope to resume discussions on Wednesday or Thursday. I'm sure David will keep our readers educated and entertained in my absence!

Many thanks to David for a raft of interesting articles posted while I was enjoying myself with my family - age range 2-82! - in the magical county of Cornwall. It's going to take me a couple of days to catch up on all these posts, so please bear with me.

I wonder who is 82? The twins are 2.

Welcome back! Don't worry, much of what David posted this week is confirmation of what you powerful thinkers have already concluded. You two should be proud; you stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the foremost intellectuals of our age.

That is very kind of you, but I suspect many of the foremost intellectuals of our age would disagree profoundly!

I would not like our forum to turn into a club of self-congratulation, but I can’t tell you how pleased I always am when you rejoin us, because you add new perspectives and freshness to our discussions. I love the psalms you have just quoted under Nature’s Wonders (even an agnostic can share in the wonders of life so beautifully expressed), and heartily approve of various sceptical remarks you have posted!

Most 'foremost intellectuals' are materialists.

DAVID: Most 'foremost intellectuals' are materialists.

That is why they would strongly disapprove of you as a dualist and of me as a fence-sitter.

These may be my last posts for a few days. I shall be undergoing a (routine) eye operation on Thursday, have 1001 things to do tomorrow, and don’t yet know when I’ll be able to use the computer again. I’ve been assured, though, that it won’t be long.

Meanwhile, if anyone actually reads this, let me wish you a Happy New Year in spite of the political madhouse most of us are living in at the moment!

Today's posts will probably be my last for at least a week. Tomorrow I am to undergo a second eye operation which, if all goes well, will bizarrely leave me able to see long distances, whereas short distances will be a complete blur! I can't be given new glasses until the second eye has healed, and estimates vary wildly between one and six weeks! If it's six, I shall have gone bonkers.

My dear friend David will probably regard all this as a metaphor for all the distortions he detects in my vision of life and the universe. But he is a kindly and honest man, and I have complete faith that when I can read again, I shan't find myself logging on to www.PanentheistWeb.com!

Funnyyyyy! I doubt I can ever retrain your distorted brain when it comes to evolution and how it works.

Our discussions are irreducibly complex,
Despite all their modifications,
So I hope it won’t make you sad if I take
A short break from the ramifications!

THIS WILL BE MY LAST POST UNTIL THE WEEKEND, AS I SHALL BE AWAY FOR A FEW DAYS WITHOUT ACCESS TO A COMPUTER.

If you have a cell phone, it may be complex, but I conclude you use, as I do, it only for communications. :-)
